McCoy Slave Cemetery
This cemetery was built in honor of Uncle Jim & His Wife, Lizzie, Uncle Charles & Family by the children of Albert McCoy.
About This Site
Nestled quietly in one of the last natural areas of Huntersville North Carolina sits the McCoy Slave Cemetery. You would barely know it was there, but for a small parking space and an unassuming wooden fence. However, should you decide to take the little gravel path back into the woods, you’ll come across a small marker which reads “ERECTED BY ALBERY McCOY’S GRANDCHILDREN TO HIS SLAVES UNVLE JIM & HIS WIFE LIZZIE. UNCLE CHARLES & FAMILY” and seemingly dated 1928.
More modern signage at the entrance to the site suggests that burials took place here both pre and post-emancipation.
